OpenSource BI Ramping Up

JasperSoft this week announced availability of its BI suite on the MySQL database. This is an interesting announcement in that it means an open source BI platform on an open source DBMS. There is no doubt that this announcement may well catch the eye of many a developer or BI savvy CIO. It could appeal in the mid-market where MySQL is widely used especially if companies have relatively low data volumes.

Mike,

You're right about that: BI savvy CIOs and developers are taking note. Open Source BI is very real and I've worked on successful implementations that do what any project is always wanting: hit the objectives on time and on budget.

Just to be clear for readers an Open Source BI suite certified on MySQL (Pentaho has dashboards, OLAP, ETL, Reporting) has been available in a GA release since December 2005.

In the hands of the right people (those developers/consultants you mentioned) open source BI can deliver great results. Readers should have a look.
