Welcome to my expert channel that will focus on business intelligence in the global context. There is no question that we live in a time when the economy and our society is truly global. Check the label on your shirt. Undoubtedly it was not manufactured in the country where you live? Need customer support on the home desktop? If so, you’ll undoubtedly talk to someone in one of several countries that have large offshore support operations. You get the point. We are globalized, whether we like it or not!

Now, let's factor into the mix the practice and technology of business intelligence. What do you get? A world economy moving very fast and very intelligently. Is this good for everybody in the world? Not necessarily, but the challenge is to understand the trends and react to them in meaningful ways.

Have you read The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman? If not, I suggest reading it with a special focus on how business intelligence is playing a critical role in globalization. In particular, how is business intelligence:

Enabling us to cut through the complexity of globalization?
Acting as a magnetic to converge diverse technologies to support globalization?
Being specialized to solve specific problems of various regions across the world?
Evolving into the collaborative fabric for better globalization?
Creating serious ethical issues involving globalization that require our attention?
